Crossing University | "Plato Meets Paul"

Crossing University is a series of university-level courses focused on Christian history & theology and is open to anyone – regardless of educational or religious background.

  • Bible-based learning within a broad historical context
  • Christian perspectives on history, philosophy, theology, and literature
  • Characterized by excellence in teaching from university professors (current & retired), pastors, and speakers with extensive knowledge of the topic being taught

TEACHERS FOR THIS COURSE:

Dr. Merle Strege  |  Professor Emeritus of Historical Theology, Anderson University; A.B. History, Anderson University; M.Div. Anderson University School of Theology; Th.D. Graduate Theological Union

Dr. Strege has served as a Professor at Warner Pacific College, Portland, OR, and Anderson University, Anderson, Indiana (36 years). He is the former Historian of the Church of God (30 years) and has authored several books and articles, most recently, The Desk as Altar: The Centennial History of Anderson University.

Dr. Jason Varner  |  Assistant Professor, Anderson University; A.B. Anderson University; M.T.S. Anderson University School of Theology; M.Litt. St. Andrews University, St. Andrews, Scotland; Ph.D. St. Andrews University

Dr. Varner earned his PhD. in early modern history in 2017 where his thesis focused on Puritan and Native American relations in seventeenth-century New England. He has taught for Warner University, Lake Wales, Florida, and currently serves as Assistant Professor of the History of Christianity at Anderson University.

John Zerkle  |  Retired Attorney; B.A. Anderson University; J.D. Vanderbilt University School of Law

Mr. Zerkle recently retired from the practice of law after almost 35 years. Most recently, he served as Sr. Vice President and General Counsel at Hillenbrand, Inc., a diversified industrial company listed on the NYSE. He has been a lay teacher at Church at the Crossing continually since 1982.
