Decisions: A Fourth Friday Workshop with Flourish at Work
Decisions! Decisions!: A Fourth Friday Workshop with Flourish at Work
Whether you’re a manager, employee, job seeker or retiree, decisions you make in your professional and private life often involve both an upside and a downside—both benefits and costs. For example:
- How do you manage risk when the costs are paid today but the benefits are uncertain or far in the future?
- How should I invest my nest egg?
- Should I pursue further education to make myself more marketable?
- How do I compete in a world where there are so many other options?
Our personal preferences allow us to rank real-world options, but our decisions often seem irrational or superficial, leading us to feel dissatisfied or unsure of ourselves. For instance, do you ever continue to devote resources to projects that have little or no chance of success?
This workshop provides a framework for decision-making under a variety of circumstances. Along the way, we will address some of the flaws we encounter in our decision-making. The goal is to provide you with a usable framework to make better decisions so you can flourish in whatever work you do.
The workshop leader, Dr. David Bivin is an expert in rational decision-making. He is Professor Emeritus of Economics at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) where he taught from 1985 through 2018.
