Over the past week, our community was hit hard by storms and historic flooding. Our team has been communicating with our neighbors and will continue assessing the needs of our church family and community in the coming days. If you or your family have been affected by the flooding, please reach out to Pastor Andrew and let us know. Tell us a little about what you’re facing and how we might be able to support you.
Right now, there are many great organizations with infrastructure to mobilize and respond quickly who are stepping up to provide emergency relief (information about some of those organizations below). But we also know that later this week, the flooding will begin to disappear from the news and social media — while the needs of our neighbors will continue.
Church at the Crossing will focus on restoration in the coming weeks and our prayer is to be able to significantly help between five and 10 local families with clean up, home repairs, and financial needs until they are back on their feet.
One More is also stepping up to provide assistance to our neighbors that have been affected. Below are several ways that the church is working through One More to respond and ways that you can help now:
Neighborhood Market
We are anticipating a large turnout at our One More Neighborhood Market this Saturday, August 22, and we are preparing to serve as many families as possible. The more hands we have, the quicker we can serve our neighbors and the more families we can help. If you are available, please consider signing up to serve for a few hours. You can register to volunteer here.
Pop-Up Legal Clinic
A free legal clinic has been organized for this Saturday specifically to help neighbors affected by the flooding. Attorneys will be available to help with issues such as replacing important legal documents that were lost or damaged, navigating landlord-tenant concerns related to flood damage, protecting against contractor or insurance fraud, and other legal needs that can surface in the weeks following a disaster.
Donate to One More
If you aren’t able to volunteer but would still like to help, we are also stocking up our Neighborhood Market inventory in preparation for the increased need. Financial gifts right now will directly help us purchase additional food and supplies for our neighbors. You may donate here to support One More and its outreach to our community.
Serve with a Local Organization
Many great organizations are already helping with emergency relief. If you’re interested in serving in this way or need resources they offer, check out Serve Village and Carmel Safety Resources.
Jordan Davis with The Smoking Pastor Project is serving meals this week to first responders and neighbors displaced by the flooding. You can volunteer with the Smoking Pastor on Friday, August 21 to serve meals in the Ravenswood community. For details and information about serving, text (463) 293-6300.
Stay Tuned for Volunteer Needs
We will communicate needs for volunteers on a case-by-case basis as they arise in the coming weeks. As mentioned above, if you, your family, or anyone you know has been affected by the flooding, please reach out to Pastor Andrew at amiller@golove.org.
